Khimich Sergey Dmitrovic

Head of the department, professor, doctor of medical sciencesSergey Khimich was born on January 20, 1959 in Vinnytsia region. He graduated with honors from two educational institutions: in 1978 – Bershad Medical School, received the qualification of a medical assistant, in 1986 – Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after MI. Pirogov. From 1986 to 1988 he studied in clinical residency at the Department of General Surgery. From September 1988 he started working as a senior laboratory assistant, and from January 1990 – as an assistant at the Department of General Surgery, Vinnitsa Medical Institute. E. Pirogov. In January 1992, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic “Use of the bladder duct in cholecystitis surgery”. Subsequently, he was actively engaged in scientific and educational) methodical work. In 2004 he defended his dissertation on “Analysis of morpho-functional features of development and course of some acute surgical diseases of abdominal organs in obese people” at the Special Academic Council of Kharkiv State Medical University. In 2001 Sergey Dmitrovich was elected to the position of associate professor, and in 2005 – to the position of professor. From 2016 to the present he is the head of the Department of General Surgery, VNMU. E. Pirogov. He is the author and co-author of over 350 scientific papers, 108 innovative proposals and 15 inventions. His scientific works have been presented and published in various editions in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, USA, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland. From 1992 to the present time, training programs have been developed and 26 scientific-practical and educational-methodological conferences have been held with the publication of printed materials. Khimich S.D. is the co-author of the first national textbook “General surgery” for students of higher medical educational establishments of Ukraine of the III-IV accreditation levels, which became the main textbook of this discipline. Over time, the textbook was revised and published in Russian. These textbooks were approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as an official textbook for students of the Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine. In early 2004, edited by Khimich SD “Surgery” textbook for students of higher medical educational establishments of Ukraine of the first and second accreditation levels was published; 2010 – co-authored a “Surgery” textbook for students of dental faculties of the Higher Education Institutions of III-IV accreditation levels. In 2011, at the request of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine under the program “Ukrainian Book”, the “Surgeon’s Handbook” was issued individually. In 2016, in co-authorship, under the direct editorship of Khimich SD, a textbook “Symptoms and Syndromes in Surgery” was published. In 2019, under the direct editorship of Sergiy Khimich, a basic General Surgery textbook for foreign students studying at the Higher Education of Ukraine in English was published. While working at the University Clinic, Professor Khimich SD is not only a scientist and educator, but also performs considerable work as a surgeon and organizer. Having mastered modern methods of diagnostics and treatment of complex surgical diseases, he constantly provides consultative help to patients and conducts complex surgical interventions, passing the experience to young surgeons.
SD Khimich was awarded the Honorary Certificates of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Distinguished Scientist of the Year (2019), is a academician of the NAS of Higher Education of Ukraine and a member of the Board of the Association of Surgeons of Ukraine.
